The World War II military walks around the hills of North Head Military Reserve are great fun to explore and also a super spot to soak up views of the coast as the sun sets. Once night falls we recommend heading back down to Devonport village for a dinner date.
Pt Chevalier Beach
This is one of our top picks for a family-friendly beach day, as it has plenty of shade, public barbecues and oodles of room for activities. Hanging back long enough to catch the sun go down over the sea to the west caps off a fun-filled day for us.
Mission Bay
Find yourself an outdoor seat on one of the balcony bars or eateries overlooking Mission Bay just before sundown and you're in for a romantic evening. Or, if you've arrived too late to snag a stool, settle seaside — we don't need much more than Rangitoto standing tall and the waves lapping at dusk to make us gush at sunset.
Waiheke Island
After a lazy long lunch on Waiheke Island, spent grazing on gorgeous produce and sipping local wines, you're going to want to stay to see the sun set. The outdoor area at Mudbrick Vineyard is one of the most charming areas to get cosy and take in the sundown.
