Angama Mara

Angama brings an elegant aesthetic to the bush, with splashes of Maasai fabrics. The camp contains 30 tents but retains an intimate feel. The "tents", which are more like open-plan apartments, feature an entire glass facade overlooking the Maasai Mara. At dinner, there's an excellent international menu washed down with fine South African wines.

Whereas at some camps it feels as if there's a distinct boundary between you and the wilderness, at Onguma Tented Camp that barrier seems blurred. A circular watering hole sits at the centre of a natural crater, surrounded by acacia trees. There are seven luxury tents and each has a small decking area. Inside, there's a double bed, armchairs and a tea/coffee station, plus a minibar.

Perched high on Nteko Ridge, the charming Nkuringo Lodge has spectacular views over Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where half the world's rare mountain gorillas roam. Nehimba

Zimbabwe
Nehimba is a classic African bush lodge, where the nine individual rooms are spaced around the property — which in this case means the rooms are located around a waterhole. Each large room is raised on stilts and built from canvas and thatch, and the ethnic-style decor is in natural colours. The restaurant menu changes daily and food is delicious and wholesome.
