Best-kept secret: Davies Creek, Mareeba. You can camp there but the only facility is a toilet.

Best coffee: Coffee Haven, Esplanade, Palm Cove.

Favourite restaurant: is Bella Baci, Williams Esplanade.

Best hotel: Pullman Reef Casino Hotel in Cairns or Peppers Beach Club in Palm Cove.

Best local produce: Rusty's Markets, Sheridan St Cairns. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Best icecream: Numi Icecream, Williams Esplanade.

Best walk: Earl Hill, Trinity Beach. It takes about 45 mins and is a good workout. I also like Stoney Creek, about 15 minutes' drive from Cairns. It's a series of little swimming holes and is good for kids.

Best spa: White Lotus Tropical Day Spa, Trinity Beach.
