A $10 million memorial for the victims of Christchurch’s February 22 earthquake will be built on the banks of the Avon River.

It's been four years since devastating earthquakes changed the very fabric of life for Cantabrians and the city of Christchurch forever. This is the second installment of a two-part series.

The New Zealand Defence Force's Red Zone Cordon in Christchurch was officially lifted at a Civic Ceremony in Christchurch. The operation was the biggest humanitarian assistance mission ever undertaken by the NZDF within New Zealand soil. At the height of the response nearly 1800 NZ Defence Force personnel -- Regular, Reserve and civilian, and from all three Services -- were directly involved on the ground, with more personnel providing support from camps and bases.

Earthquake Commission boss Ian Simpson has offered to resign over the commission's massive privacy breach but has been told to stay on and fix up the mess.

The largest concrete pour within the Christchurch central city cordon so far began at 3am on Thursday 28 February, and took 13 hours to complete. This timelapse shows the almost-750 cubic metres of concrete being laid on the site of a new four-storey office building on the corner of High and Lichfield streets. There were 32 trucks and two pumps were needed for the project as well as a team of 19 staff.

Srecko 'Alec' Cvetanov details the communication he had with his wife, Dr Tamara Cvetanova, in the passing hours and lead up to her death, as she was trapped in the debris of the collapsed CTV building following the deadly February 22 quake.

A unique quick-fire demolition of the eight-storey URS House in Christchurch. The building owners have chosen to demolish it rather than repair, and they are managing the demolition works privately. That work plan will see the former office block leveled in under 48 hours by two separate crews using two high-reach excavators.

Mainzeal has completed laying the slab which will be the base of the new Airforce Museum in Wigram, Chrictchurch. Until they move in it will be a pop up conference centre and help out other museums affected by the earthquakes.

The much-anticipated blueprint includes 12 key sites for major facilities, including a new 2000-capacity convention centre at a "postcard location" by the river, a huge aquatic and indoor sports facility, revitalised square with a new central library, and Ngai Tahu cultural centre. Leafy, bright "college-campus style" open space will form the compact centre of a rebuilt Garden City, designed to "solve the problem of too much land, not enough demand".
