Machinery enthusiasts and families are invited to enjoy the sights and sounds of the old workhorses of yesteryear as restored machinery cranks into life on Sunday.
The "Crank Up Day" hosted by the Northland Vintage Machinery Club will be a chance for people to get a glimpse of the tractors,bulldozers and crawler tractors used to shape Northland and New Zealand's landscape in the early years.
Some of the machines on display are up to 100 years old and thanks to plenty of voluntary hours are back in working condition.
Vintage Machinery Club president Dick Thorburn said it was the second time the club had held such a day and members were looking forward to showing off the machines. "It will be a chance for people to come and reminisce and for the young ones to have a look at what their grandparents are talking about," Mr Thorburn said.
At various times of the day the machinery will be started up - hopefully without a hitch. There will be plenty of club members on hand to talk about the history of the machinery. There will be a haymaking demonstration and firewood cutting and splitting.
A vintage tractor and trailer will take people through the museum grounds and a stand of bush on the property.
"It's a great chance for people to have a look and experience these well-restored engines and machines," Mr Thorburn said.
The day is being held at Heritage Park at Maunu on Sunday from 10am until 3pm, and will there will be a barbecue available. Entry cost is $5 for adults and under 5s free.
