This week has been very quiet. The lull before the storm, but the next two weeks will see all hell break loose with over 1000 mostly weaners come on to the market.
So far the market is holding up very well; locally we need more rain urgently but further north most areas got 100ml.
Houhora Weaner Fair
With 300 head Houhora was very small this year; this was mainly caused by the early drought conditions. Farmers had no option but to ease back on their numbers but the north has had good rain now which should see them through. Top Whiteface sold for $900 down to $740. Early born Simmental cross steers made $880. Lots of small steers made $500 to $600. Mt. Camel who has sold lots of cattle at Houhora for many years had to sell earlier because of the drought and with small numbers the southern buyers were mostly absent. Whiteface weaner heifers sold for $740 and Limousin heifers $656 and medium Limousin and Simmental heifers $500 to $600. Dairy beef heifers made $450.
