Xtramsn: The "Beast from Redmond" is beginning to make its presence felt at Xtra's web portal, which has received its first major revamp since Xtra announced its $300 million partnership with Microsoft. Now you have to sign up with Microsoft's Passport user identity/authentication service before you can chat with other Xtra users.

Parentsdownunder: This is an excellent locally managed site designed to help with child rearing from pregnancy to school age. Heaps of useful advice on everything from baby nutrition to whether you should clean up after your children. Includes a lively message board and a free classified advertisement section for "pre-loved" toys, buggies and change tables.
