There's a battle raging between fans of this warzone first person shooter and the mega-selling Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 over which is best. There are a few sweet one-line jabs at MW2 from the characters in Bad Company 2 that add fuel to the fire. The latest in
the Battlefield series builds on lessons learned in the first game, with cleaner graphics, a slicker combat system and better game engine. Racing Russians around the world for an old, mysterious WMD, it's more of a new game than a sequel. The environments are big and flowing and incredibly destructible. The eight-ish hour long single-player mode is well-scripted and fast, with the opportunity to grab all manner of vehicle - something MW2 can't do. Online multi-player modes are standard fare, but delivered with massive environments and the choice between going it alone or in squads.
There's not much to dislike, only the rare moment where the mostly-destructible environments glitch out and you find yourself unable to shoot through tree branches.
Verdict: A solid, well-playing first person shooter right up there with the current king, Call of Duty. Whichever you're into, this is worth playing - engaging, story-based war games of this quality don't come along that often.
