One of my favourite movies of all time is Back to the Future.
Featuring a time-travelling DeLorean (which in itself is pretty cool), it also showcased the holy grail of many skate-geeks, the hoverboard.
The hoverboard from the movie packs some serious anti-gravity tech, floating above the ground, promising asilky smooth ride.
Now a hoverboard video has surfaced from a company called HUVr titled "The future has arrived". The video calls itself "completely real" and features celebrities - ranging from Tony Hawk through to Moby riding HUVr Boards in a Los Angeles parking lot.
The video starts with a DeLorean pulling into a parking lot and an introduction by Christopher Lloyd (who played the scientist, Dr. Emmett Brown in the movie).
In a nod to the movie, one of the HUVr Boards showcased is also a replica of the bright pink hoverboard used by Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) in the movie.
While digital post processing could hide harnesses, wires and wheels used to simulate anti-gravity, the burning question is this: what is the video promoting?
Speculation has gone thermonuclear online since the HUVr videos were released, ranging from the videos being a viral teaser for a Back to the Future 4 movie through to a promo for iRobot (the makers of the Roomba vacuum cleaning robot).
Moby posted several pictures of him on a hoverboard on Twitter, yet repeated calls to "fess up" on what the viral campaign is about have gone unanswered.
The HUVr campaign talks of a live date of December 2014. In the unlikely event this is real, HUVr may have unveiled what could be the killer gadget of 2014.
