Data stuck on MegaUpload.com is to be saved for a further two weeks, despite the service being shut down by US law enforcement authorities.
The lawyer representing MegaUpload, Ira Rothken, reportedly told TorrentFreak.com that data would be saved for at least another two weeks, after stories circulated that the datawas to be deleted by the 2nd of February .
The file sharing website hit the tech media globally after raids by the New Zealand police and the FBI which saw Megaupload shut down and its owner, Kim Dotcom, arrested on suspicion of copyright infringement and other charges.
Rothken told TorrentFreak that talks with the various parties hosting Megaupload data has seen the data saved for two more weeks.
US authorities have made backups of data on MegaUpload's servers as evidence against the company, but Megaupload wants to ensure that its users can retrieve stranded data.
Visiting Megupload.com sees an FBI anti-piracy notice displayed: "This domain name associated with the website Megaupload.com has been seized pursuant to an order issued by a US District Court."
