Q. Dave writes in to say he followed Inbox's instructions several weeks ago on how to defragment his hard drive, and now his system folders are missing from the Start menu of his Windows XP 2002 Home Edition. The defrag worked until it came to his computer's Accessories, which now
seems to have disappeared. Despite his many attempts to retrieve the function, he can't find it.
A. Those files can easily be restored by running the Windows setup CD. Go to Start/Run and type in: cmd, then hit enter and type in: sfc /scannow and hit enter again. System File Checker will check for all damaged or lost system files and replace any wayward items from the CD.
Alternately, activate defragmenter via My Computer, right click the C drive and select Properties/Tools. Remember, defragmenter always runs best in Windows Safe or Protected mode.

Q. Terry had everything sweet on her computer until this week an error popped up that read: Error:#msntb - toolbar - full - name. Now she can't access MSN Explorer.
A. Recently, online forums have been rife with this fault. It seems to stem from the MSN Messenger 7.5 update where a fault in the optional search toolbar component is causing havoc.
Use Control Panel/Add Remove Programs to uninstall MSN 7.5, then re-install it but remove any added option ticks when you reach that stage of the installation, especially for the MSN Toolbar component. Once removed and reinstalled - minus the toolbar - MSN Explorer works fine.

Q. When searching on Google, Sean keeps getting the message: 401 unauthorised. He wants to know how to get authorised.
A. Sean is trying to enter a password-protected area of a website. Or, if he's previously been able to enter, it's possibly blocking users from his domain because of someone's recent actions.
If you want or feel you should be able to access the site, contact the administrator.
Remove all but its main domain from your location bar (somewhere.co.nz or somewhere.com), and this should take you to the main page where a contact link to the webmaster should be available.
