Fire service going mobile

Mobile computing is a future direction for the Fire Service as it extends its hardware, software and support supply arrangements with Gen-i.

The service's finance chief, Brett Warwick, said Gen-i could provide the national coverage and IT expertise the Fire Service sought.

He said Gen-i had carried out a server upgrade and shift to Microsoft Windows XP at the service, which was now considering mobile computing opportunities.

"One significant area we are exploring is getting mobile data to our fire truck to improve the availability of our operational teams," Warwick said.
