Sarah Cruz-Taylor has 1047 Facebook friends and says she knows them all personally.
"I have a huge family and I'm from overseas, so a lot of them are my family members. But I'm quite a social person and I like to know what all of my friends are up toand it's a good way to keep in contact with people."
The 21-year-old does not seek out friends just to add to her tally and says it is weird when people add one another after meeting only once. She only adds people whom she would consider friends.
"I don't just go adding random people that I've met at parties; I find that pretty creepy. I add people who I've met twice or three times and actually know, unless you joke around with someone you just meet and have a 'I'm going to add you on Facebook' conversation."
In fact, she has so many friends on the social networking site that her university friends threw her a real-life party when she reached 1000.
"They threw me a party because they always hassle me about how many friends I have. Whenever they meet anyone I know, they're always like, 'Oh, so are you one of her 1047 Facebook friends like the rest of us?'
"I ended up cancelling the party because it was too embarrassing."
Ms Cruz-Taylor started her Facebook profile in 2007 so she could keep in contact with family from her Colombian hometown.
She had MySpace and Bebo profiles before moving to Facebook and casting aside the others. She is now completely Facebook-faithful and does not even have Twitter.
"My favourite things about Facebook are the live chat and the news feed. I like having a little stalk of people sometimes."
The Massey University business psychology student admits she would probably spend about five hours a day on the site and checks it from the time she wakes up in the morning until she goes to sleep at night.
"I use it more when I'm studying than during the holidays. It's really good to procrastinate your assignments on it."
