The chilly weather last Thursday did not deter racegoers who enjoyed the Farmers Day Out at the Stratford Race Course.
The racing club reports an oncourse turnover of $47,045 and an offcourse turnover of $623,017.
One of the winners of the day was Mini Pearl, and the in-form mare furtheredher record at Stratford, with an eye on the Listed Taumarunui Cup as a winter goal.
Trained by Fraser Auret for his parents Nigel and Adaire, the 6-year-old got the better of Mr Handsomelad in a tight finish under the urging of apprentice Dylan Turner.
"The Taumarunui Cup has been at the back of our minds all along if she was travelling well enough and that's the case," Fraser says.
