There were a large number of entries at the Coastal Adult Riding Club's Combined Training Competition held at the Egmont A&P; Showgrounds end of last month, with many riders looking for an opportunity to bring their young horses on in both dressage and jumping classes.
Judges for the dressage wereKay Bloomfield of Eltham and Helen McCallum, Manaia, while the show jumping was judged by Kate Worthington of Toko and David Schumacher of Stratford.
A number of local riders performed well on the day.
Jill Watson from Eltham, riding Evanda, won Class 1 Dressage, while Eltham's Jo Zehnder on Larrey took third and Maria Laws from Kaponga on Yardah Valentina took fourth place in the Class 2 Test S.
In Class 3 Combined Training, Annie Tapper, from Stratford, placed third riding Porangi and Marcia Taylor, from Egmont Village, fourth on Kodak Magic.
Eltham rider Sophie Arnoux on Minty won the Class 4 Show Jumping 40cm and the Class 5 Show Jumping 60cm.
In the Class 6 Show Jumping 75cm, Sheree McDonald's horse Rimu ridden by Jill Watson placed first, with Annie on Porangi third. In the Class 7 Show Jumping 90cm, Annie, also on Porangi, placed second with Jo, riding Larrey, in third place.
