Up-and-coming Stratford sport star Eva Langton received this week what has been the best news so far for her sports career - she will be part of the New Zealand 14 years and under basketball team competing at the Hoops Nations in Las Vegas, Nevada in July.
Eva will beplaying along side Bailey Gavin, who is also from Stratford.
Eva got the news she'd been selected for the team on February 24. She is one of the youngest on the team, which makes her extra happy about getting this opportunity.
Basketball has always been Eva's main passion, as she has been playing since she can remember. Her dad, Aarun Langton, says its like "basketball chose her".
"Its my first time representing New Zealand in basketball ever, so I'm still really shocked about everything but I'm really excited about it," Eva said.
Eva, alongside Aarun, helped build up the sport at St Mary's Diocesan. Last year, Eva was the captain of both the Med Lab and Junior A teams.
Eva's future ambitions at this stage are either getting a scholarship to play basketball in the United States of America at a basketball academy, or study to become a physiotherapist. No matter what path she chooses to go down, she will always make time for basketball.
Eva thanks the three main coaches she has had over the years, Darren (Chook) Hohaia, Solly Hughes and her father Aarun for their expert coaching.
