The ladies of the Rural Women Group joined together for a special lunch commemorating the Women's Suffrage movement's 120th anniversary and, in particular, the achievements of Kate Sheppard.
The ladies met at the Ink Pot cafe in Stratford, where organiser Margaret Vickers says they had "a lovely meal and some
great company".
Margaret had placed Kate Sheppard camellia flowers on each table before the lunch, and says she feels it is important that women today recognise the work their ancestors did in securing the right to vote.
With the local government elections looming, Margaret adds that "people need to educate themselves to make informed decisions on who they are going to vote for".
With this in mind, the Rural Women are hosting a Meet the Candidates evening on Thursday September 26 at the Function Room, War Memorial Hall, Stratford at 7.30pm.
