After several incidents of sign vandalism on Opunake Road Stratford District Council's contractor Downer New Zealand has handed the matter to police.
Over the last week the road name signs at two intersections on Opunake Road have been pulled out at least three times.
"Vandalism of this nature is a major source of frustration for us," says Kevin Whelan, the council's senior roading engineer.
Signs are put up for a reason and their removal compromises motorist safety
Added to that is the cost to ratepayers in reinstating signs, as well as wasting the time of council officers and contractors.
