This year Toko Playcentre is commemorating 40 years of providing quality early childhood education to rural eastern district families.
We are planning to mark this occasion later in the year, with a celebration to be held Labour Weekend. The details are still being worked out but we hope to get as
many past attendees as possible to make this a memorable occasion.
The current families attending Toko Playcentre are busy fundraising for this event. We have already catered a successful Xmas dinner for our local Rural Women branch and we are working on our next project which is a Garage Sale to be held in the Toko Hall on Saturday May 12. We have had donations of quality household items, clothes, books etc from around the district so we are sure there will be plenty of bargains to be had. If you are in the area on that day please feel free to call in and see what is on offer and have a cup of tea or coffee with us.
At the present time we have 17 families attending Playcentre, which is great to see. Last term we had a focus on fishing which stemmed from one of our children's interests. We had a trip to Opunake Beach where the children fished off the beach into the rivermouth and were successful in catching some fish. We also caught an eel in the stream running behind Playcentre which one of our mums took home and smoked and brought back for the children to try.
If you are interested in coming along to Playcentre, Toko has sessions on Monday and Thursday 9.45-12.45 during the school term. Your first three visits are free so come along and see what Toko Playcentre has to offer. For any other information you can call Helen Jones 762 2926.
