The countdown is on for Countdown in Stratford

Countdown is pleased to confirm it has received Council consent to build a $15 million supermarket in Stratford that will create up to 110 jobs and engage dozens of local construction workers and building contractors.

Countdown's General Manager for Property, Adrian Walker, says Stratford is a community the company is keen to employ and invest in.

Adrian says the company is excited to start planning the timeline for the new store and to have found a great site in Stratford where the company doesn't currently have a presence.

"Suitable sites for supermarkets are very hard to come by because of the site access and size that is needed. We're committed to building a supermarket that will fit in with the community, and we've worked hard to put forward a design that will enhance the look and feel of the area around us," says Adrian.

The resource consent is subject to any appeals but the company is hoping to open the new store in mid-2015. Recruitment information will be advertised in due course ahead of the opening date.
