Taranaki highway closed by massive slip

A large slip has come down across a highway on a blind corner in north Taranaki overnight, blocking the road in both directions.

Police said a truck driver came across the "substantial" slip north of Urenui at 3.10am as he travelled north on SH3.

Motorists in both directions cannot get through and it is unclear how long it would take to clear the slip.

No diversion are in place and police were asking motorists to be patient.

Traffic control was being arranged.
