Les Sylphides, who was sired by Bachelor Duke out of the dam Dancing Viking, has proven them both right with a lifetime career prize money of $55,865.00 so far, a highlight being her win in the Hooker Pacific Stratford Cup in the Stratford New Years Eve races, 2012.
Proving she isn't a flash in the pan, Les Sylphides most recent race was at Awapuni in June, which saw her take first place in the Nelson Pine Industries 2100m race for her fifth win. "Trudy is a fantastic trainer and that comes through in the results, she really looks at the horse overall and develops the right plan for each one." Jason says Trudy's work with Les Sylphides pays off daily. "When we first had her, she was miserable, just skin and bone. I had heard great things about Trudy and her stables and I am really pleased I decided to bring the horse to her."
Trudy says the unique muscle healing therapy she offers as part of her services at Bellbrooke Racing Stables has been a major part of the success she has had with the horse. "She has had a lot of muscle issue which we have worked on. She is one of the sweetest horses and has such a big heart, but underneath that is a real fieriness which comes through on race days."
Two of Les Sylphides' biggest fans are Caleb and Lucas, Jason and Deanne's sons.
The boys, who have silks in their horse's colours to wear on race days, love getting up early to watch replays of her races. "We shout lots when she races."
Caleb says he and Lucas love watching 'Lacey" race, especially when she wins. "Trudy cuddles dad when Lacey wins," says Lucas.
Trudy believes with the boys love of racing it won't be long till they are jumping in the truck to accompany Lacey to the races. She adds that Jason, Deanne and the boys have become great friends of her and her husband Vaughan, "another thing we owe to this great little horse".
Trudy and Jason agree that Les Sylphides has more than repaid their faith in her, and say she is a horse to continue watching as she continues her racing career.
