Shell continues school sports support

Shell Todd Oil Services (STOS) announcement to extend their sponsorship to the Taranaki Secondary Schools Sport Association (TSSSA) is fantastic news for all secondary school students says Mike Summerell of TSSSA.

Throughout the school year TSSSA run more than 50 separate events for secondary school students, 90 per cent of which are free due to principal sponsor STOS.

"We couldn't do any of this without their on-going support," says Mike.

TSSSA was established in 1952 to actively promote sporting opportunities for secondary school students and has grown dramatically in the last 15 years, with the addition of various codes from small bore riffle shooting to athletics and indoor rowing.

STOS been in partnership with TSSSA for 15 years and have signed up to extend their sponsorship for another two years.

Sports co-ordinator at Stratford High School Philippa Merson says TSSSA events are a wonderful opportunity for the students. "It gives our students the opportunity to not only compete in competitions outside our regular school events but they have the opportunity to try new sports and compete with and against students from other schools in the region."
