Shear, eat, drink - a real challenge

The New Commercial Hotel hosted their annual Shear a sheep, Eat a pie, Drink a drink competition on Sunday afternoon.

Competitors from throughout central Taranaki attended the famous event in hopes of beating their scores from last year.

Jude Dix, of The New Commercial Hotel, says it was great to see so many entrants again this year and a big crowd of supporters.

"We had 20 teams enter into the event and some of the more confident competitors event took on the challenge in some individual races."

Jude adds it was great to see an all female team in the competition again this year, who beat their previous time of 2.15 minutes with a time of 2.11 minutes.

Jude says the annual competition wouldn't be such a success without the help of their sponsor RD1 Stratford, the donation of sheep by Don Buchanan and the use of the shearing stand by John Herlihy.
