Children in the vicinity of the Adrian Street Reserve in Stratford have another reason to smile, thanks to the Taranaki Electricity Trust (TET). The new Adrian Street playground has been completed and the consensus from those who are using it is that it is 'pretty cool'.
The equipment in the original
playground had become rusty and worn and had to be removed because of the risk to users. Parents in the area banded together and asked council for the equipment to be replaced. Council approached TET who agreed to give a grant of $20,000 for the project.
The community was involved in the design of the playground, with council asking the residents in the neighbourhood for suggestions and their preference on three options for the playground design. After that consultation, council gave the go-ahead to the most popular option.
The new playground was provided by Wanganui firm, 'The Playground Centre' and has three swings and a permanently-fixed modular unit which has climbing frames and a slide.
The new playground is proving very popular with children in the area and Property Asset Manager Vicki Jagersma said it is a real asset for the community. "We are very grateful to the TET for enabling us to go ahead with this project," she said.
