National MP's Chester Borrows, Barbara Kuriger, Stuart Smith and Todd Barclay talked with farmers, councillors, teachers, real estate agents, business owners and representatives of various community groups in an event organised by the politicians to get feedback from people in the region on a variety of issues.
Chester says the meeting "gave people a chance to be heard," adding that he was heartened by the large turnout. "We encourage people to come and talk to us, how else can we represent the community other than to make sure listen to it first?"
Stratford High School principal, Philip Keenan, says he feels it gave people the chance to air their views, "and I think the politicians listened, it was a good forum for many, especially those involved in the farming industry who have been having such a hard time, it is important that our politicians do come out and meet with the community at these times".
Chester says as well as giving politicians the chance to hear from the community, it also gave them the chance to keep people updated on what is happening on a national level. "We can tell people what we are doing, what we have planned and what we envision for the future, which in turn helps people plan and make the right decisions."
