A day for a trip out.
To where?
To Stratford War Memorial hall
for a celebratory lunch.
Celebrate what?
Daffodil Day! What else?
A good trip down.
Despite having a snooze
seeing daffodils in paddocks.
Arriving on time, 11.15am,
a warm welcome
by those assisting people
to seats, helping distribute meals.
Daffodils to greet us,
many leaving to brighten a home.
Sales table, for souvenirs
And food!
Hot soup, sandwiches, cakes, hot drinks.
A relaxed informal atmosphere.
People come - young (the youngest 16 days old!)
to the people in their nineties.
Food distributed, tongues wagging,
cameras clicking.
(The writer was caught by someone
wielding a camera, feeding his face!)
Fun, fellowship, friendship
all helping money change hands
to celebrate DAFFODIL DAY
and raise funds for The Cancer Society of NZ.
All too soon it's time to leave,
taking with us memories of a lovely day
Beautiful flowers - some planted in gumboots!
of cheerful friendly people who organised the event.
Roll on, DAFFODIL DAY 2015.
