Up to 1500 daffodils will be picked by Glenys Campbell and her team of helpers today, as they prepare for Daffodil Day on Friday.
Glenys will then spend Thursday, with other members of the Floral Arts Group, turning the vibrant yellow blooms into gorgeous bunches of flowers which are sold as part of the annual Daffodil Day fundraiser.
"It's been a fair few years now," Glenys says when asked how long she has been volunteering her time and skills to the charitable venture. She got involved through the Floral Arts Group, and says the work is hard but rewarding.
The daffodils have to picked regardless of the weather, so some years we have been out in the rain and the cold wind, with fingers so cold you can't drive until they have warmed up and you have feeling back in them.
After a day out in the elements, the team then meet up inside on Thursday to turn the individual flowers into bunches. They add greenery, working for several hours to ensure they have enough bunches to meet all the orders already in, as well as allow for some last minute sales.
