THE hall was alive with the sound of music on Friday August 28, as older ladies and gentlemen enjoyed a free performance and afternoon tea at the Parish Centre of Stratford's Catholic church. Students and teachers from St Joseph's School provided sing-along music for the enraptured audience, with food provided bymembers of the parish. Around 60 people attended and by all accounts, the afternoon was another huge success. "We have a concert like this on the last Friday of every month," said a representative of the parish, "and we have been putting them on for about twelve months." "Anybody can come along. When we started, we had about 20 people coming along; now we can get around 70. "It's just spread by word-of-mouth and the older people really look forward to it." The monthly concerts are also well supported by local rest homes and offer a wide range of entertainments, including pianists, savage club music groups, dance groups and the odd game of bingo. "From the entertainers to the helpers, all who are involved give their time and effort for free. We're extremely grateful to all involved," she said.
