Over 90 people came to hear local MP Chester Borrows speak at the War Memorial Hall on Monday morning this week.
Chester says he has been holding the morning tea events in towns across the electorate, inviting anyone listed on the census for that area who is over 65. "This is the best turn out we have had, we have had a maximum of around 60 in other areas, so I am really pleased to see so many people came out today."
During his talk, Chester touched on many subjects, including the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership, crime and justice issues and what he termed "the current hot potato" of Health and Safety. Talking of Health and Safety, Chester said he had no objection to the need for rules and regulations, but did have an issue with what he termed "the clipboard nazis" who turn up at a business with no understanding of how the business actually operates.
He also gave those present his opinion on some of his colleagues at parliament, describing Peter Dunne as being "politically astute" and referring to David Seymour as "the new guy".
Taking questions from the audience afterwards, Chester was asked on his opinion of amalgamation for the area. "I would be absolutely against it," he told the group, "I would understand South Taranaki District Council and Stratford District Council joining together, but would have a problem with New Plymouth being part of it".
