Modern Jivers dance up results

Six dancers from The Modern Jivers group attended the Kiwi Dance Classic in Auckland on April 18 and 19.

Based in South and Central Taranaki, the group has been training with tutor Maria Cashmore since November last year and it was the first competition for the dancers.

Maria says it was a great experience for The Modern Jivers group, who brought home nine wins and 21 placings from the competition.

"Each of the dancers have put in an enormous amount of effort over the last four months and performed wonderfully at the competition."

Maria says when each of the dancers began classes with her none of them had any previous dance experience.

"It is great to see them step out of their comfort zones and tap into their potential, they have all grown so much."

- Richard Walker - Partnership Excluded (PE) Male Rhythm Foxtrot: Second place, Modern Jive Beginner Free-style: Second place.

- Tracey Dakin - PE Female Rhythm Foxtrot: Second place, Modern Jive Beginner Free-style: Second place.

- Mark Pierson - PE Male Cha-Cha-Cha: Second place, PE Male Waltz: Third place, Modern Jive Beginner Free-style: First place.

- Yvonne Lehrke - PE Female Cha-cha-cha: Third place, PE Male Waltz: Third place, Modern Jive Beginner Free-style: First place.

- Simon Forsyth - Masters 1, levels 1 and 2, Cha-cha-cha and Jive: Third place, Professional-Amateur (Pro-am) Cha-cha-cha, Rumba, Samba and Jive with Nerida Cortese (of Dancing with the Stars New Zealand): three second places and seven third places

- Maria Cashmore - Masters 1, levels 1 and 2, Cha-cha-cha and Jive: Third place, Pro-am Cha-cha-cha, Rumba, Samba, Jive, Waltz with Jonny Williams (of Dancing with the Stars New Zealand) and Amateur to Amateur Cha-cha-cha, Rumba, Samba and Jive with Shae Mountain: Eight first places, three second places and two third places.
