Longtime A&P member farewelled

Ernie Burrows and Christine Fowles were both made life members of the Stratford A&P Association recently.

It is the end of an era for the Stratford A&P Association as they farewell longstanding member Christine Fowles.

Christine started with the A&P in 1998 as secretary, and since then has been "the backbone of the Stratford A&P Association", says Stratford A&P president Ian McCaul.

Ian says Christine, who married Chris Fowles a few weeks ago, has been a vital part of the running of the association through the years.

"Her extensive knowledge has been invaluable, as has her passion for the association."

The association, says Ian, "has been extremely lucky to have had Christine with us for so long, and it will be a hard role for someone else to fill".

Christine will by missed by all involved with the association, says Ian, "and we wish her all the best as she and her new husband relocate to the South Island".

Christine's dedication to the association was acknowledged when she was awarded life membership at a recent meeting.

Also receiving a life membership at the meeting was Ernie Burrows, a recent Stratford Citizen Award recipient.

Ian says Ernie has been a "very willing" volunteer for many years, spending hundreds of hours doing unpaid maintenance at the showgrounds.

"He does it all off his own back and we really appreciate the hard work he does looking after the grounds so well."

Ian calls Ernie a "top guy", saying the work Ernie does makes a real difference.
