The colour green normally springs to mind when talking about environmental awareness, but for two schools in the Stratford district, their commitment to the Enviroschools programme has seen them recognised with a silver status through the Enviroschools programme.
Marco and Toko schools are the first in the Stratford district to achieve this status, and are two of only three across the whole district to have it.
The Enviroschools programme supports children and young people to plan, design and implement sustainability actions that are important to them and their communities.
Enviroschools is supported by a national team, in partnership with nearly 100 national and regional partners, with the Taranaki regional partners being Stratford District Council, Kindergarten Taranaki, International Volunteer HQ, Wood Group PSN, Taranaki Environmental Education Trust and New Plymouth District Council.
"The fantastic level of engagement of the Stratford enviroschools is thanks to the commitment of the school staff and boards, as well as the ongoing support of the Stratford District Council." Taranaki Enviroschools regional coordinator, Rachel Eckersley says the team are grateful for all the support they receive in the community. For the Enviroschools Holistic Reflection Process there are three stages that reflect the deepening and broadening of the Enviroschools journey: Bronze, Silver and Green-Gold. During the Enviroschools Holistic Reflection Process, schools and kindergartens reflect on their journey in relation to one of these stages.
