SEVERAL Stratford dancers will be performing in the Val Deakin Dance Theatre Trust's presentation of The Nutcracker Suite (Act II of Tchaikowsky's Nutcracker Ballet) in New Plymouth next month.
This very popular Christmas story ballet has delighted audiences worldwide since it was first performed in Russia in 1892.
It is the story
of a young girl's journey to the Land of the Sweets where she meets and is entertained by dancers who represent various drinks and sweets including the Sugarplum Fairy, Russian bon bons, Chinese tea, Arabian coffee and the marzipan Mirlitons.
The show will be at the Dance Centre (306 St Aubyn Street, New Plymouth) on Friday, December 11 at 11 am, Saturday, December 12 at 2 pm and 5 pm and Sunday, December 13 at 2 pm and 5 pm.The Dance Centre will be transformed into a magical and intimate theatre presenting an exciting live dance experience.
There are a few 'Stratford' faces to be seen in the production. They include experienced dancer Donna Kelly. She has been a leading dancer with the Dance Theatre for many years and is known for her dramatic roles.
She has received glowing reviews for her many parts including Shakespeare's Spell, Snow White and Steps in Time. Georgia Howatson (from Toko) will also be dancing in this year's production. She is one of the dancers in the lovely and swirling Waltz of the Flowers, and is enjoying the chance to dance in the production.Tickets will be family priced to allow families to enjoy this wonderful holiday treat.
