This Friday, the Inglewood Lions are hosting a free barbecue outside the Shoprite supermarket on Matai Street to show their appreciation to locals for their support of the group.
Pat Julian, publicity officer for the Inglewood Lions, says the group have recently delivered 13kg of old or foreign coins and notes to the Resene Up For Kids centre in Wellington.
This, he says, brings the total of old and foreign coins collected by the Inglewood based group to over 100kg. As well as old or foreign coins, the Lions also collect current loose change, all of which goes to helping the "Heads Up for Kids" project which helps fund various youth based projects.
The Inglewood Lions have collection points for the coins and notes throughout the town, at Fun-Ho, the TSB Bank and the Inglewood Library.
Pat says anyone is welcome to drop off old and unwanted coins, notes and loose change, and everyone is welcome to stop at Shoprite on Friday to "grab your free snarler - after all, they do make a great smoko snack".
