The photographic lightboxes at Stratford Library have received national acclaim recently, but that hasn't stopped vandals destroying one of them last Friday night.
Director of Community Services for Stratford District Council, Kate Whareaitu, says it is "very disappointing" to see the smashed lightbox outside the library.
"Council put a lot of time, effort and money into creating a building that residents have great pride in and it is a real shame that an individual or group of individuals would do this, especially considering it is less than six months since we have re-opened the library and unveiled the lightboxes."
The lightboxes depict local faces and places, so have a personal connection to the town.
The damage has been reported to the police, and thanks to the CCTV cameras which are in the area, "we are hopeful the vandals can be identified and dealt with".
