Talofa lava, O a mai oe? Or, in other words, hello, how are you?
This week is Samoan Language Week, and New Zealanders are being encouraged to share and learn Samoan words and phrases.
The week coincides with Samoan Independence Day which is celebrated on June 1.
Lita Posiano, a
student nurse from Samoa, says it is important for Samoans to remember their culture and history as well as their language.
Lita travelled through Stratford on her way to Whanganui and says, "The longer I am away from my own country, the more I realise how much I miss of it." Lita plans to spend Samoan Independence Day with other expat friends in Whanganui.
