Members of the Central Taranaki Rural Women Dinner group have donated a large sandwich press to the Stratford Fire Brigade, which chief fire officer Tony Foley says will be "very well-used".
Maria Upton, of the Central Taranaki Rural Women Dinner group, says the ladies wanted to give the fire brigade volunteers something to go in their newly re-vamped station as a way "of giving back to the community from our fundraising efforts". They approached Tony and he said the sandwich press would be a fantastic item to have in the station.
"It means the boys can fill up quickly when they have been working on a big job, or someone can go back to the station and make a load of toasted sandwiches to bring out to everyone when they are stuck working outside for a long time."
He says the gift is greatly appreciated by all the volunteers at the station, adding they are all grateful to the Rural Women for thinking of them.
Maria says the group fundraise through a variety of events, including a 90s themed disco held recently, and they support a range of local causes. "We have also just given $500 to the We Heart Taranaki campaign, and are always open to suggestions of local causes or needs that we can help out with. We love giving back to the community we live in."
