STRATFORD and Toko firefighters battle a hayshed fire with foam and water on Toko Rd early Tuesday afternoon.
A Toko appliance, two from Stratford and a water tanker from Eltham attended the blaze, which took a few hours to get under control, while farm workers on tractors pulled the balesfrom the shed.
Stratford fire chief Noel Webby said the call-out was the second hayshed fire they have attended in a week, which is very unusual, as they have not been called out to a hay fire in the Stratford District for about 10 years.
The other fire was on Mohakau Rd, also in Eastern Taranaki, early Thursday morning last week. Both brigades and a tanker also attended that fire and it took three hours to get under control.
He said it not believed either fire was deliberately set, and another unusual aspect was that the hay was not freshly cut, which can sometimes result in a heat build-up.
