FILMS A HIT

It was another successful screening for budding filmmakers Emma Burton, Janelle Rooyakkers and Kimberly Southey at the TET Kings Theatre.

"Thursday night was a great success for the girls," says Barry Milner, theatre manager. "The audience were genuinely enthusiastic about the films."

Around 80 film buffs came out to see the movies that range in style from thriller to drama.

"We have generally stuck to scary movies because we like to terrify people but we are branching out a bit and giving comedy a go," says Emma. "We included one on Thursday night and got a surprisingly good response."

The trio premiered eight movies, two trailers, three bloopers and four ads, all of which they acted in, edited and produced themselves.

"I really enjoy making the films as it gives me a nice break from real life," says Janelle, who studies early childhood education.

While Emma is the only one of the three who is considering making a career out of films, they don't look to be slowing down with their creative hobby.

"We would love to do a screening every six months rather than yearly," says Kimberly.

Emma adds that this would require more funding and equipment.

Along with the films Emma has produced some successful ads for local businesses that are screened at the theatre. "Emma has a real talent for sound editing," says Barry.
