The man accused of the manslaughter of Hawera toddler Esme Claire Kinraid in June this year has been named as her father, Philip Murray Kinraid.
The 27-year-old chemical engineer did not appear at a hearing in the New Plymouth High Court this morning, during which his bail conditions were set and name suppression lifted. Justice Raynor Asher varied Kinraid's bail conditions, requiring him to report on Mondays and Fridays to the Dunedin Central police station. Justice Asher also supressed publication of any image of the victim.
Kinraid's lawyer, Paul Keegan, said his client had no previous convictions and was in grief counselling. He said Kinraid was living in Dunedin with his brother.
The court heard from Crown prosecutor Cherie Clarke, who told the court that Kinraid's estranged wife, along with his son, was also currently living in the South Island, but not in Dunedin.
Kinraid has not yet entered a plea to the charges of manslaughter and assault of a child. He is due to next appear before the court on September 18 at which point a plea to the charge will be dealt with.
