The Eltham police station, for the time being, will remain in the town's main street.
Taranaki Rural area commander Frank Grant this week confirmed that the station will remain at its current location, but said more details are not available.
The station would have had to move following a reportthat identified the building as a potential earthquake risk. A move back to its old premises on Burke Street was one of the options considered, but a move away from the main street was met with some resistance from residents who want the police to be highly visible and accessible as possible. The earthquake issues could hinder compliance by the council, was earlier said.
