Nominations have now closed and the Electoral Commission has released the electorate and party list candidates for 2020 online at vote.nz.
Across New Zealand, a total of 17 registered political parties and 677 candidates will be contesting the 2020 General Election.
In the Whanganui electorate, voters have a choice ofseven candidates. They are (in alphabetical order) Alan Clay (Green Party), Harete Hipango (National Party), Hillary Kieft (Independent), Steph Lewis (Labour Party), Jonathan Marshall (New Conservative), Heather Smith (Social Credit) and Charlotte Weber (Advance NZ).
In the Taranaki-King Country electorate, voters have a choice of five candidates. Christopher Grey (NZ Outdoors Party), Barbara Kuriger (National Party), Brent Miles (ACT New Zealand), Angela Roberts (Labour Party) and Lee Anne Smith (New Conservative).
In the Te Tai Hauāuru electorate, voters have a choice of six candidates - Noeline Apiata (Advance NZ), Korrallie Bailey-Taurua (ONE Party), Kiri McKee (NZ Outdoors Party), Joshua Morgan (New Conservative), Debbie Ngawera-Packer (Māori Party) and Adrian Rurawhe (Labour Party).
In the New Plymouth electorate, voters have a choice of eight candidates. Glen Bennett (Labour Party), Murray Chong (New Conservative), Rusty Kane (Independent), Kath Lauderdale (Social Credit), Dan Thurston Crow (The Opportunities Party), Rowena Wood (Advance NZ), Ada Xiao (ACT New Zealand) and Johnathan Young (National Party).
The deadline to register for a postal vote for the upcoming election and referendums has been extended by five days to give people more time to apply.
Postal voting is available for people who cannot go to a voting place to vote in person, for example for health or mobility reasons. People can apply by calling 0800 36 76 56.
