It was a fantastic defensive effort for the Chiefs when they played against the Queensland reds at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night, resulting in a 24-3 victory to the Chiefs at the end of the night.
With three tries to the Chiefs, and most importantly, no tries to the Reds, the Chiefs picked up four competition points to keep their momentum going as they get closer to the playoffs.
The Reds were strong in attack, but the Chiefs defence did a fantastic job at keeping them at bay. With captain Liam Messam and team mate Brodie Retallick returned from injury, the team were formidable opponents throughout the match.
The Chiefs are now hoping to win more than just a rugby match this coming Saturday, as they take on New Zealand conference champions the Hurricanes in what will be a battle for the hearts of the Yarrow Stadium crowd. With Taranaki having switched allegiances from the Hurricanes to the Chiefs just a year ago, the stadium is likely to be packed with supporters of both sides, with the Chiefs stating "this ones about territory".
Hurricanes players Conrad Smith and Beauden Barrett are both Francis Douglas Memorial College old boys, and the entire team will be training at their captain's old school on Thursday before they host a dinner for past players and supporters that night. The Friday will see the team, who have a total of six Taranaki players compared to five Taranaki players on the Chiefs side, visit local schools and the hospital as well as having a meet and greet with fans that day.
