This year's Daffodil Day has been a great success says Mary Dettling, chairperson of the Daffodil Day committee.
"As ever, we are just so grateful to all the businesses and individuals who help out, from providing raffle prizes, to buying merchandise or luncheons, every dollar counts and every person who makes a contribution is appreciated by us all."
Mary says the amount raised this year is still being added up, as money is still coming in from various fundraising events held around the town. "We have schools who have held mufti days, people who have sold raffle tickets or held an event to raise money who are still totting up their totals and getting it to us. Thank you every one who has already handed their totals in, and those who are still to do it, just give us a call and let us know."
The Daffodil Day committee's vice president, Raewyn Rooney, says she is thrilled with how popular the merchandise was this year, and reminds people she still has some of the items available if people missed out on the day. "I can hold on to it for a week, so if people want any items, just give me a call on 06 765 7110 and I will have it ready for you." Merchandise still available includes some beautifully hand made heat packs, some 25 year teddies, some teddies from past years along with other bits and pieces.
Mary says the day is always a success, thanks largely to the generosity of local people who support the event so well. "It is great on the day seeing how busy the War Memorial Hall is with people meeting up with friends and enjoying the luncheon. We see lots of the same faces every year, as well as some new ones, and we really appreciate the effort people make in taking time out of their busy lives to support this charitable event."
