Crackers a gift for community

Fonterra Bridge Street, Eltham, has done its bit in supporting the local community this week, donating 114 cartons of water crackers to the Stratford Community House.

The crackers are to be distributed to those in need through organisations involved with the Community House.

Barbara Sharp of Fonterra contacted Sherry Lee, administrator at the Stratford Community House, with the donation offer as the crackers were out of specification to be sold in stores.

"Fonterra were keen that the food be donated to the community rather than just be thrown away," says Sherry, "and the Community House is happy to play a role getting them to people who need them."

Jamieson Motors (Jamo) also got behind the donation by contributing the use of a trailer to transport the crackers from the Bridge Street cheese factory to the Community House.

Sherry adds, "Acknowledgement also needs to go Jean-Luc Danquigny [a past Fonterra employee] who volunteered his time to transport the donation to the Community House."

The Community House and all the groups involved are grateful for Fonterra Bridge Street's donation as it will help many people in need.

The Stratford Community House is a central point for social service groups; these include: Taranaki Community Law, Counsellors Anderson & Hoffman, Barnardos, HRC, Hawera Budget, Supporting Families, Counsellor Denise Johnston, Holy Trinity Church Parish office, Family Works, Stratford Branch Genealogy Society Trust and Stratford Foodbank.
