Comedy star sparkles at quiz fundraiser

There were lots of laughs as Urzila Carlson took the stage on Friday night at the Central Taranaki Young Farmers Comedy Quiz Night.

This was the second annual fundraising event for the club and organisers Jayden Harvey and Roger Dettling says the night was a huge success.

Urzila spent time getting to know the locals during the quiz rounds before taking the stage at the end of the evening for her stand up comedy routine.

"I was so excited to be invited back to Stratford. Taranaki always provides a great audience of people who are ready to have a laugh."

Urzila adds that since her last performance she has visited Stratford throughout the year as she travelled around. "I've stopped in for a drink a couple of times. It is a charming town".

Twenty-nine teams were entered in the comedy quiz night which tested entrants on their general knowledge, farming skills and pop culture trivia. Jayden says tickets were sold out a week before the event and many teams were returning from last year. "It's really encouraging to have such a huge amount of support two years in a row. It is obviously an event that people in the community really enjoy and we hope to carry it on in years to come."

The comedy quiz night was not just a fundraiser for the club, Roger says the Central Taranaki Young Farmers will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the Stratford Daffodil Day committee and the Rotokare Scenic Reserve Trust. "Both organisations are worthy causes and the club are all pleased to be able to support them."

Jayden and Roger would like to thank all the sponsors of the comedy quiz night as well as everyone who purchased tickets. They add that next time Urzila stops in Stratford for a drink, there will be plenty of friendly faces to welcome her to town.
