Roadsafe Taranaki, facilitated by South Taranaki District Council, brought the RockUp mobile rock climbing wall to Eltham School on Monday morning.
While the children had a great time, they were also learning an important lesson.
"Before the students are even allowed to go near the climbing wall they have to'buckle up for safety', just like when they get into a car," says Troy Savage of Roadsafe Taranaki.
Troy says that while the climbing wall is a treat for the children, it also provides an example of the safety precautions people should take every day.
"If we can ensure that the children learn these lessons at a young age and ingrain the knowledge into them we can secure their futures," Troy says.
Eltham School principal Liz Malone says, "We are so grateful to both STDC and Roadsafe Taranaki for allowing this to come back to our school."
The road safety/rock climbing wall programme visited Eltham School three years ago.
"It's always good to make something like this a re-occurrence in a school. Not only can we ensure the importance of seatbelts, we can teach the students other road safety initiatives like the significance of safely crossing roads," Liz says.
