Wheelhouse brings in Worksafe speaker to talk about Health and Safety

Taranaki community group body The Wheelhouse is hosting a free event in Stratford to discuss health and safety for volunteers.

On February 27, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, Jill Manaia, assistant manager for Worksafe operations and support, will be at the Shakee Pear to talk about health and safety.

Marcia Millard, manager for Wheelhouse says this is a refresh session to remind people of their health and safety responsibilities and demystify the myths.

"Four years ago the health and safety legislation changed and there was concern that this would have a negative impact on the voluntary work and community sector. Jill wants to reassure those working in the sector. She has a commonsense approach to health and safety."

Marcia says the Shakee Pear is a good venue as it is on the highway.

"We brought this session to Stratford in hopes people from Stratford and South Taranaki will come."

Marcia says the event is suited for board members, volunteers, managers of volunteers, staff members, people thinking of volunteering in the future and anyone acting in support of monitoring role for the voluntary and community.

"I've always found her to be a great support. After people have spoken with Jill, they leave with a can-do attitude when it comes to health and safety."
