Stratford High School has named its head boy and girl, Sam Witeri and Ashleigh Stanners.
Sam Witeri says he feels honoured to be head boy.
"In all my years here, I have never seen a Māori Head Boy, which makes me feel more honoured. I am really excited to see how the year will turn out and all of the opportunities I will have in this position."
Sam plans to work in construction.
"I hope to find myself working in construction. This is so I can stay in the community and better build relationships within it and hopefully make a company of my own.
Ashleigh Stanners says she was shocked when she found out.
"But then I was really honoured and proud that they believed in me and my abilities within the school and community."
Ashleigh plans to go to Canterbury University for engineering or Otago university for bio mechanics.
